I Miss The Internet

We are still not online in the house yet! The internet is supposed to kick in today but I have a feeling it won't. I'm cursed like that. In the meantime I'm trekking up to the library everyday to check my emails. Its so tedious and I feel like I'm living in the stone ages!!
I'm currently sat in here killing time before my 1pm seminar starts, watching One Tree Hill and fannying around on facebook. Riveting stuff.
Since I've been back at uni the whole weight watchers thing has gone out the window. I haven't had the internet so I haven't been tracking and that never ends well. I don't think I've gained any weight, or at least not more than a lb or two which is good, but I need to get back into the swing of things. I'd like to shift another stone before Christmas.
On Saturday I'm off to Devon for a week with the family. I will be accosted by fish and chips and cream teas but its my holiday so I'm not going to be too obsessive. Once I'm back I can go back to tracking properly and hopefully see some more good losses. I'm sick of staying the same!!!
This is just a quick one from me to say HI to everyone, hope you're all doing ok and I will take the time to update myself with your blogs asap.

The Big Move

Hey guys! I know I haven't posted in an absolute age but there is a good reason for this! I am now officially back in Canterbury, fully moved in and loving the 'refreshers' vibe! Admittedly weight watchers has not been a big priority this week because I've been out most nights and of course it was my birthday on Wednesday - I am officially 20! I also haven't had any internet access unless I trek all the way up to the library, meaning I haven't been able to do my weight watchers online tracking. I will admit I've been using this as a bit of an excuse not to track, which is bad of me. I'm hoping that once lectures start on the 27th I'll be able to get into more of a routine eating and exercise wise, plus I'll have internet at home by then and will be able to get back to tracking religiously!

Anyway, despite not being a perfect weight watcher I managed a sts on Fridays WI so I'm quite pleased with that. Walking to and from campus is going to up my exercise quota quite a lot as well. It might only be a 10-15 minute walk, but its up a massive hill and it really is quite exhausting. Particularly when hungover. Which I have been all week.

This is just a quick one from me because I want to go home, bury myself under my blanket and never get up again!!! Muchos love and I will update you all properly soon :)

The Baking Bug

I've officially caught it.

Last week I made yummy Banana muffins from the Weight Watchers magazine and they were SO delicious, I decided to make some more today while I was waiting for my new phone to be delivered. Then I decided to make some choccy chip ones with the milk choc chips left in the cupboard, although I wasn't sure what to point these as! I also had to make a few alterations to the recipe as well I pointed the Banana ones at 3pts this time as well because I had to use a different spread and it had a slightly higher fat content.

For anyone who is interested and doesn't have access to this months mag, here is the recipe:

  • 2 bananas
  • 1 tbsp clear honey
  • 100g low fat spread
  • 150g soft brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 175g self-raising flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  1. Preheat the oven to gas mark 4/160 degrees.
  2. In a small bowl, mash the bananas and honey with a fork.
  3. In a larger bowl, cream the spread and sugar with an electric whisk or in a food blender. Once the mixture has a consistent, fluffy texture, add the eggs and continue to beat for several minutes.
  4. Fold in the banana and honey mixture, then sieve the flour, baking powder and nutmeg into the bowl and fold in until the mixture is consistent.
  5. Line a tray with muffin/cake cases and spoon in the mixture so that each case holds an equal amount. Bake on the middle shelf for 25-30 minutes, or until golden on top and springy to the touch.
This recipe is 30.5 points on the Weight Watchers plan. If you use it to make 8 muffins they will have a points value of 4. For 12 muffins the points value is 2.5.

For the chocolate chip muffins I simply omitted the bananas and nutmeg and added about 1/2 a pack of milk chocolate chips. Without the bananas the mixture was too dry, so I added about 50ml semi-skimmed milk. They didn't rise as well but they still taste yummy!

Like I said, a bit flat but still delicious! The only thing is the choc chip ones just look plain because all the chocolate sank to the bottom while they were baking!

While I have been virtuous in the kitchen, I'm sad to report that the same cannot be said for the rest of my eating habits. I haven't posted since Friday, so i guess I have to come clean about the whole weekend. Saturday was, as predicted, a Weight Watchers write-off. Lots of yummy food at the curry house, washed down by yummy alcohol. On Sunday I came in just a couple of points over for the day, until I decided I needed bread. The same happened yesterday. For some reason I have huge cravings for carbs and sugar at the moment, and I'm pretty sure that reason is called Time Of The Month. From my calculations its fast-approaching so I am going to have to try extra hard to control my cravings if I want to see another loss this Friday. I'm going to try to earn some BPs tomorrow and Thursday to try and cover my early week naughtiness and fingers crossed I'll be able to at least stay the same!!

I also have one more thing to confess to - cut my hair! Took off about two inches of horrifying split-ends and had my fringe cut back in, then dyed it all a lovely plum colour.
Clothes wise I've had some more let-downs. I ordered a velvet dress from New Look for my birthday which was sadly far too short for me - I'm talking bum-skimming! I also got a bodycon skirt which I am so far undecided about, but I'm thinking its going to be a no as well. I'll take some pics tomorrow to demonstrate before I take them back to the shop.

On the other hand I came across a little gem while I was sorting through my stuff the other day. Its a black and white structured dress from Dorothy Perkins that I bought in May for a family friends Holy Communion. Wore it on the day then put in on the rack and forgot all about it! I tried it on and it fits nicely and looks fab with a pair of red heels, so provided the weather on the day is a-ok I think I've found myself a birthday outfit! Once again, pictures to follow!!

Oh, and other big news!! I might, possibly, have an interview! I got an email from jobshop (the university job centre type thing) about some bar work. I emailed the woman and she got back to me asking when I can interview! Hopefully I'll hear from her tomorrow. The job is about 3 miles from my uni house which is a pain but its better than nothing. I'm in no position to turn down funds at the moment as my overdraft is in a very sorry state!

Something I'm proud of in the last few days...


I am proud of getting back onto Weight Watchers. Even though I haven't been point perfect, I'm back to tracking and at least attempting to keep control of my eating. Current hormones have made it even harder but I am very proud of myself for trying!

WW Online - WI 1

-2lbs, woooooop!

So pleased to have lost this week after just three days on track! Hopefully I will see another 2lb off this week so I can be back to 16 11.5 before I move back down to Uni next Sunday :) I'm hoping I do because I'm feeling very down after a horrifying trip to New Look. I know New Look sizes always come up quite small but NONE of the clothes fit me, at all :'( all the jeans I tried were grotesquely camel-toe, muffin-top yuckiness, which is quite disheartening. But still, onwards and upwards, and lets hope in a few weeks they'll fit a bit better! Hopefully having my hair done tomorrow will make me feel better - planning a cut and colour because my hair is looking a bit dull and ratty.

Sadly today was my last day working at the Tower :'( chances are I'll be back at half-term and Christmas though so thats ok. I really enjoy working there, everyone is really nice and we all have a laugh. Plus the money is quite nice as well...!

I'm also pleased the report that I am officially a planner-aheader. I'm going out tomorrow with some old school friends as an early birthday thing, we're going to the curry house near my dads. I'm planning to have Prawn Dhansak (16pts) and plain basmati rice (4pts). I'm also going to stick to vodka and diet coke and be extra good during the day. If I go over then its not the end of the world, I'll just save some points up during the week :)

Short term goals for this month:

Stay on track and get back into some good weight watchers habits
Sort out my new room at uni so its homely and comfortable
Get started on my reading lists so I don't fall behind when lectures start
Get into a good exercise routine

Hmm...I think those are all of my short-term goals for now...if I set anymore they'll never get done!

Blog Challenge Day 7

A picture of something or someone that has the biggest impact on me.

Being the rebel that I am, I'm not going to post a picture, because I am a very firm believer in being the master of your own destiny. As such. I believe that the someone or something that has the biggest impact on me is me. There is no point doing something for someone elses benefit because it will never be achieved. You have to do things for yourself.

The best example of this I can think of is my attempt to lose weight. My mum told me for months, maybe even years, that I needed to lose weight. I made a few half-hearted attempts but it never stuck, because I never really wanted to do it. In January something clicked and I realised I needed to lose weight, not because my mum told me to, but because I wasn't happy at the size I was. I also came to realise that I needed to lose weight to be healthy - when a nineteen year old is getting out of breath walking up one flight of stairs it doesn't tend to mean good things.

So yeah, the moral of that little ramble is this: the person who has the biggest impact on me is me. My decisions, my mistakes, my achievements, my failures, they are all down to me. I have to take responsibility for my own actions. So does everyone else.

Ok...I'm not even sure that made any sense, but I know what I was talking about even if you guys didn't, so...yeah. :)

Now my little blog posty challenge is done and out of the way, I have exciting news! I am officially back on track! I know I've said that a lot over the last few weeks, but this time I mean it. The motivating factor was when I got on the scales on Tuesday morning to be informed I'd gained 4lbs - EEEEK. My original plan was to go with the flow until I got back to uni and then get back on track once I was down there, but I know from experience that 4lb soon turns into 7lb, which soon turns into a stone, which soon turns into 'holy fucking shit, I'm back where I started' and that simply won't do. So I started my WW online account and have been on track for the last three days. I've set my WI day for Fridays (before the inevitable weekend parties, sneaky eh!?) so I will be weighing tomorrow morning. I know its only half a weeks worth of tracking so I'm not expecting a loss at all, hopefully I will stay the same at 17st 1.5lb, which is what I was on Tuesday morning. From now on, I hope to be able to report a loss every Friday. I WILL do this!

I have lots of ideas ready for next term to keep me going. I've just been talking to my friend Emma, who, despite being TINY, wants to tone up next term, and we have hatched plans to go swimming and to some gym classes. I'm also going to join the Kick Boxing society, which is fab exercise and will be great for making new friends. I'm thinking of joining the ramblers society as well because I LOVE walking and its something I think I'd really enjoy. I know I need to step up the exercise because as I'm losing weight the skin on my tummy is definitely getting looser. Its not too noticeable at the moment but in three or four stones time its going to be repulsive. The best thing to do would be to tone up my skin as I go along to minimise the looseness.

I've also decided to be more adventurous in my cooking. I'm going to put together a folder of Weight Watchers recipes and try to make something new every week to keep myself interested in what I'm eating. Its so easy to slip into a rut with food and get bored, which leads to slipping off the wagon more often than not. With this in mind, I made some yummy banana muffins this afternoon from the Weight Watchers mag. They're lush, I'd definitely recommend them. They are very easy to make and they make a great snack.
